What Is LCM? How Many Types of LCD Modules?

Liquid crystal display (LCD) is widely used in pocket instruments and low-power application systems because of its many advantages, such as low power consumption, small size, rich display content, thin and lightweight. What is the LCM LCD module and what are the types of LCD modules?
1、 What is the LCM LCD module
Simply speaking, the LCD module is a combination of LCD screen and backlight components. It is called LCD module in English and LCM LCD module.
LCM liquid crystal display module is a complete display module that can be designed according to the needs of users by assembling liquid crystal display devices, connectors, integrated circuits, control drive circuits, PCB boards, backlights and structural components.
2、 How many types of LCD modules are there
LCD modules are mainly divided into the following three types: Segment LCD module, graphic dot matrix LCD module and character dot matrix LCD module.

  • Segment LCD module
    Segment LCD module is a functional component composed of Segment LCD and special integrated circuit. It can only display numbers and some identification symbols. Segment code LCD is mostly used in portable and pocket devices. As these devices are small in size, the display part shall not be designed as a separate part as far as possible. Even if some application fields need separate display components, they should also have some information receiving, processing, storage and transmission functions in addition to the display function. They are popular in the market because they have some general and specific functions.
    There are three common digital LCD modules:
    (1) Counting module
    This is a seven segment liquid crystal display device with different bits and decoding driver, or a counting display unit assembled with a counter. It has the functions of recording, processing and displaying numbers. At present, the main products that can be seen in the Chinese market are the unit LCD display module driven by the cd4055 decoding driver, and the 4-bit, 6-bit, 8-bit, 10 bit, 12 bit and 16 bit counting module assembled by the integrated circuits icm72ll, icm7231, icm7232, cdl4543, updl45001, hd44100 and the corresponding LCD devices.
    (2) Metering module
    The metering module is a module composed of a multi segment liquid crystal display device and an integrated circuit with the functions of decoding, driving, counting and a/d conversion. Because the IC used has a/d conversion function, the input analog electrical signals can be converted into digital signals for display. We know that any physical quantity, even chemical quantity (such as pH, etc.) can be converted into analog electricity, so as long as a certain sensor is equipped, this module can realize the measurement and display of any quantity value, which is very convenient to use. The integrated circuit models used by the metering module mainly include icl7106, icl7116, icl7126, ICL7136, ICL7135, icl7129, etc. the functions and characteristics of these integrated circuits determine the functions and characteristics of the metering module. As a metrological product, metrological verification must be carried out according to regulations. With the approval of the measurement department, the measurement certificate is pasted on the product.
    (3) Timing module
    The timing module uses the liquid crystal display device for timing for a long time. Assembling a liquid crystal display device with a timing IC is a fully functional timer. Because it has no shell of the finished clock, it is called the timing module. Although the timing module has a wide range of uses, it is difficult to buy a universal and standard timing module in the market. You can only go to an electronic clock manufacturer to buy or order a suitable watch core. Although the appearance of the timing module and the counting module is similar, their display methods are different. The numbers displayed by the timing module are composed of two digits in a group and two digits in a group Each number of the counting module is arranged continuously. Since many timing modules also have timing and control functions, such modules can be widely assembled to some power on and equipment, such as tape recorders, CD players, microwave ovens, rice cookers and other electrical appliances.

  • Character LCD module

  1. The character lattice liquid crystal display module is composed of lattice character liquid crystal display device, special row and column drivers, controllers, necessary connectors and structural parts, which can display numbers and Western characters. The dot matrix character module has a character generator with large display capacity and rich functions. Generally, this kind of module can also display characters with 8 bits and 1 line or more than 16 bits and 1 line. The lattice arrangement of this module is composed of 5 × 7. 5 × 8 or 5 × 11 is composed of a group of pixel lattice arrays. Each group has 1 bit, and there is a little interval between each group, and there is also a row interval between each row, so the graph cannot be displayed.
    Generally, there is a character library cgrom with 192 fixed character fonts in the module control and driver, and there is also a random access memory cgram that allows users to customize and create special characters, allowing users to create 8 5 × 8 dot matrix characters.

  • Graphic LCD Module

Therefore, continuous and complete drawings can be displayed. Because it is also composed of X-Y matrix pixels, it can display characters in addition to graphics.
