An In-Depth Exploration of Abnormal Lines on LCD Display Screen: A Comprehensive Analysis of the Line Defects Phenomenon — What Are Line Defects

LCD display screens handle over 90% of display tasks in modern electronics. However, visual issues can occasionally occur — the most common being horizontal or vertical lines on the screen. This issue is often referred to as a “missing image” or line defect.

What Is a “Missing Image”?

A «missing image» refers to one or more lines — either bright or dark — that run across the LCD screen when displaying content.

Common Types of Line Defects

  • Bright Line

A clear, continuous bright line across the screen — horizontal or vertical — easily visible to the naked eye.

Dark Line
  • Dark Line

A less visible, dim line that blends into the screen — often harder to notice without close inspection.

  • Multiple Line Defects

This type of defect involves multiple horizontal and/or vertical lines on the LCD screen. These can be either bright or dark, though bright lines are more common. Such defects are usually more serious, with a higher number of lines that may appear densely packed. They create a stark contrast with the normal display area and significantly affect the screen’s visual performance.

Multiple Line Defects

These issues can compromise the normal functionality of the display, and their specific appearances vary depending on the severity and location of the screen damage. By understanding the characteristics of these defects, users can better identify them and take appropriate action.

In the next article, we will explore the causes behind these line defects in more detail.
